The BENTLY 3500 - 20 125744 - 02, also known as the Rack Interface Module (RIM), is a fundamental component within the 3500 monitoring system. It serves as the primary interface to the 3500 rack, playing a crucial role in system configuration and data retrieval.

This module supports a proprietary protocol, which enables users to configure the 3500 rack and efficiently retrieve essential machinery information. It is mandatory for the RIM to be installed in slot 1 of the rack, adjacent to the power supplies. In this position, it can effectively manage communication and data flow within the system.

The 3500 - 20 RIM has a power consumption of 4.75 watts, which is relatively typical for such modules. It can withstand a storage temperature range from - 40 °C to + 85 °C (- 40 °F to + 185 °F), ensuring its durability even in extreme environmental conditions. When in operation, it can function within a temperature range of - 30 °C to + 65 °C (- 22 °F to + 150 °F).

One of its key functions is to support compatible BENTLY NEVADA external communications processors like TDXnet, TDIX, and DDIX. However, it's important to note that while the RIM provides functions common to the entire rack, it is not part of the critical monitoring path. This means that its operation or malfunction does not impact the proper and normal functioning of the overall monitoring system.

For each 3500 rack, one RIM is required. In triple modular redundant (TMR) applications, a specialized TMR version of the RIM is used. In addition to the standard functions, the TMR RIM also performs "monitor channel comparison," constantly evaluating and comparing outputs from redundant monitors to ensure system integrity.

With dimensions of 241.3 mm x 24.4 mm x 241.8 mm, it is compact yet highly functional. The module features LEDs to indicate its operating status, hardware switches for specific configurations, and various ports. A configuration port allows for the configuration or retrieval of machinery data from the rack using the RS - 232 protocol. The rack interface I/O module enables daisy - chaining or configuration of racks through RS - 232 and RS - 422 protocols, while the data manager I/O module can connect two BENTLY NEVADA communication processors to the 3500 rack.
