It serves as a sturdy housing for all 3500 monitor modules and power supplies within the 3500 series. This enables seamless communication among different modules and ensures that power is distributed accurately to each module as per its requirements.

Available in two sizes, the full - size 19 - inch EIA rack comes with 14 module slots, catering to larger - scale monitoring setups. The mini - rack, which is 12 - inches in size, has 7 module slots, making it a great choice for applications where space is at a premium.

There are also three mounting formats. The panel mount type attaches to rectangular cut - outs in panels using supplied clamps, with wiring and I/O access from the rear. The rack mount format is installed on 19 - inch EIA rails, again with rear - accessible wiring and I/O. The bulkhead mount is used when rear access is not possible, and it allows for front - side access to wiring and I/O. However, the mini - rack is not available in the bulkhead mount format.

Power supplies and the rack interface module must be placed in the far - left positions of the rack. The remaining slots (14 in the full - size and 7 in the mini - rack) can be filled with any combination of modules, providing great flexibility in system configuration.
